Mike Markett Background

Early Years

I was born on September 15th, 2000 to my parents Frank and Kristen in Naperville, Illinois. At the age of 3 we moved to Homer Glen, IL where I lived until I was 19. In 2002, my brother AJ came along, and in 2005, my brother Matthew was born.

I spent my childhood like most children – playing sports, watching movies, going to summer camps – I loved being active and always had to be doing something. I love my family and take great pride in being an older brother and a role model for my siblings. My first love was baseball. Ever since I can remember, I ran around with my whiffle ball bat pretending I was in the Major Leagues making whoever was around pitch to me. What started as an innocent kid just having fun, turned into a greater love for the game as I grew older and began to compete at a higher level. I played travel ball with Top Tier and even got an opportunity to travel and play in Italy. Some of my greatest relationships with friends and coaches have come from baseball and the lessons I learned from the sport have molded me into the person I am today.

Education

I attended St. Michael’s School in Orland Park from 1st through 8th grade and graduated in 2015. Throughout my time at St. Michael’s, I also played football, basketball, and soccer (for the school/parish). I was extremely competitive in school and sports, and received the Black Lion Award in 8th grade in memory of Major Don Holleder. I was always an A student, but had an aptitude for writing and english. Attending a private Catholic school helped me shape my faith at a young age and taught me discipline, hard work, and good study habits.

I went to Marist High School from 2016-2019. I was a part of the National Honors Society and Spanish National Honors Society, involved as a Student Ambassador, and played baseball for 2 years and football all 4. My coaches, teachers, and friends at Marist helped me to mature and grow as they pushed me to my limits to become the best version of myself. I became more responsible, more disciplined, and more confident in my 4 years at Marist which set me up for a successful college and post-college career.

I now attend Drake University and am a junior Advertising student. Throughout my time at Drake I have developed amazing relationships and have learned how to persevere, be accountable, and to be authentic and true to yourself. I am planning to graduate in the fall of 2023 and am not yet sure what career path I want to pursue, but I want to help people find the best in themselves and make in impact on something bigger than myself.
